A Debutante Takes D.C.

Yep, that’s me, 5th from the left. Yes, VP Cheney rolled over my foot when he sat down. He apologized. I was mortified.

Let me talk about my intern experience for a minute.  First, we all thought we were big time being in D.C….we were NOT.  We were teeny, tiny fish in a great big pond.  However, being the nerd I am, I thought it was the greatest.  Well, that’s a lie.  I didn’t want to go, but my dad thought it would be really great for me, and I agreed until I got there.  Then, I wanted to go home!  My parents wouldn’t take me home, which I thought was so selfish of them!  But, let’s get back to it.  So, one of the days we were there, we got to go hear President George W. Bush speak at an event honoring Code Talkers (Google it.).  Then, one night, we went to hear the Dave Matthews Band…OMG, so fun.  Former Senator John McCain held the elevator door open for me, but I didn’t need to get on that elevator.  I’m kicking myself about that.  Oh, I went down an escalator while former Senator Hilary Clinton was on the next escalator, we were only separated by a handrail.  Whaaaat?  BUT, the highlight of the experience (sorry, all of D.C.), was going to hear Ben Affleck speak at a Congressional hearing.  Let me tell y’all…it was a room full of girls going to hear him.  I was about eight feet behind him.  Obviously, I was certain he was going to turn around, our eyes would meet, and we would fall madly, deeply in love (This was pre-Jennifer Garner, all respect to her, because I just love her, and obviously, she will also read this blog.)…ummmm….yeah, it didn’t happen.  So, I came home after D.C., still single. We’ll pick up from here next time.
