Welcome, to my blog, “I Cook Because the State Requires Me to Feed My Children,” which consists of true(ish) stories from a SAHM, plus some yummy (I think) recipes!

My name is Otie Heubach, and I am a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM), but not the Martha Stewart type of SAHM.  I do, however, pretend to be on a cooking show while I’m in the kitchen. It’s even more fun when I have a fresh manicure (you know, for up close camera shots).  You know you do it, too.

When I first got married, I can honestly say I didn’t know the stove from the oven, much less how to turn either one on! We were in the restaurant business and my mom used to cater.  WHY would I need to learn how to cook? My husband was a cook in several restaurants. Once again, WHY would I need to learn how to cook? We would go pick up food and wine from our restaurants for dinner.  We had about five dollars to our name, but we ate as if we didn’t have a financial care in the world!

THEN, the restaurants sold.  uh oh. THEN, baby number one came along.  yay…but, uh oh. THEN, my husband started working more nights.  THEN, baby number one started to eat real food. uh oh. THEN, we moved. yay.  THEN, babies numbers two and number three came…as in eighteen months apart. uh oh. yay. oh, my.   THEN, my husband started traveling a lot. THEN, I developed a love for the kitchen.

More to come in the next post…
